COUNCILLOR ARIF HUSSAIN
Mayor 2022 - 2023

It is a great privilege to be chosen as mayor for 2022 for our town of High Wycombe.

Having lived here for most of my life, I attended what was Sands School and then went up to Cressex School, where I completed my GCSEs.  I studied A-levels at the Bucks College of Higher Education which we now know as Bucks New University.  From there, I went on to study Chemistry at King’s College London as well as an MBA a few years later.

I served as a magistrate for 12 years and was a member of the Probation Board for 8 years.  I have been a school governor at RGS for 12 years and I am a level 2 cricket coach. I am proud to have founded the Five Pillars charity in 1999, which actively offers food parcels to our vulnerable and needy residents in the community and beyond over the last two years.

I am happily married with three children. We have food businesses and a learning disability care home in the Wycombe area as well as the Step In cafe on Desborough Road.  Our café offers people with learning disabilities an opportunity at work experience as well as arts and drama classes.

I have achieved whatever little I have thanks to some wonderful teachers, friends and local people and, it was my desire to give back to the community, that made me become councillor.  I have held a number of positions in the council including Deputy Leader, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Deputy Cabinet Member for Education and Resources.  Currently I am Chairman of the High Wycombe Community Board and Deputy Cabinet Member for Communities.

I am passionate about our town, our heritage, our environment and our surroundings.  My aim is to work together with the charter trustees, local businesses, local residents and the voluntary sector to improve our businesses, enhance our quality of life and to reach out to those who are in need.  It is important that we all support our local businesses and take care of our residents.  I am really looking forward to promoting our town centre, our economy and our outlook so that, together, we can encourage more people to come to our great town of High Wycombe.  Please reach out to me if there’s anything I can do to help you in any way.

I look forward to working with you all.
